Story
I shoot with a real Pentax 17 — half-frame film camera. I wanted to bring that deliberate, tactile shooting experience to mobile without it feeling like another Instagram filter app.
The hard part was getting real-time GPU-accelerated film simulations right. Not presets — actual color science for each stock. Kodak Gold 200 renders warm with saturated reds, CineStill 800T has that distinctive halation glow, Ilford HP5 nails the grain structure. I built native modules in Swift and Kotlin to get the camera pipeline working properly across both platforms, with React Native Vision Camera and Skia handling the live preview.
Every detail mirrors the physical camera. Half-frame format (2:3 vertical), date stamping, a frame counter that counts down like a real roll. The gallery shows which film stock you were shooting so you remember the aesthetic choices you made. It's a camera app that respects the ritual of shooting film.
